3. Zero-Value Anchoring
The blank domino halves (0 pips) are extremely powerful anchors. Since they don't add to the sum, they are often used by puzzle designers to restrict the placement of high-value dominoes. Always look for regions with low sums (0, 1, 2) to anchor your initial logic.
4. Working Backwards from Remaining Set
When you're stuck, look at the dominoes you haven't used yet. If you have the [6|6] left, but all the remaining regions on your grid are small or have sub-6 sums, you know the [6|6] must go into a multi-tile region or one with a high total.

- Ignoring Uniqueness: Forgetting that each domino is unique. You can't have two [1|1] dominoes on the board!

- Replay the Easy board and try to beat your previous move count. Easy boards are designed around a single idea, so they are the best drills.

Difficulty Ladder: How the Levels Scale
Easy — the idea board
A compact grid with few dominoes. Each Easy puzzle usually teaches exactly one technique (a small-sum anchor, a boundary split, or an equality pair). Treat Easy boards as drills: name the technique the board is built around before you start placing.
Medium — the set-tracking board
More regions overlap, so a domino placed in one region frequently blocks another. The main skill is maintaining the unused-domino set and refusing to commit a high pair until its target region is confirmed.
Hard — the working-in-thirds board
Up to sixteen dominoes and several constrained corners. Trying to solve Hard boards linearly (top to bottom) fails; the reliable order is to finish one constrained corner, then the opposite corner, then the centre.
When to Give Up and Learn
Stuck past the fifteen-minute mark on a Hard board? That is a learning moment, not a failure. Open the archive page for the date, read the board analysis (region conditions, tightest targets, suggested deduction order), and try again from the top. Players who study one completed Hard board per week improve faster than players who brute-force every daily puzzle.
